Chinese Association of Refrigeration (CAR) was founded on April 25 th , 1977. CAR is a national scientific organization in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning industry and trade, which is subordinated to China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). CAR formally joined in the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR, headquarter in Paris ) in January 1978, and became a second grade membership country. Up to now, CAR has 443 company members, 93 s uper -senior members, more than 700 senior members, more than 15,000 ordinary members, 1,754 student members, and 2 oversea members.
CAR always aims at solidifying and serving CAR members and technical personnel in the field of ref rigeration. For the development of science and technology of China refrigeration, CAR has conducted many activities , such as facilitating domestic and international scientific communication, formulating and revising standards of the technologies and products in the field of refrigerati on.
Currently, there are 26 regional refrigeration associations. Those regional associations, under the supervision of local China Association for Science and Technology, have carried out a volume of work including academic exchanges, technical consultation , popular science education , professional training, international technical exchanges , and publishing journals, and have obtained remarkable achievements.
Authorized by National Office for Science and Technology Awards, the CAR Science and Technology Awards were founded in 2003, including Technological Invention Awards, Science and Technology Progress Awards, Outstanding Contribution Awards, Young Researcher Awards. The awards were issued for the first time in 2004. The CAR Science and Technology Awards issued every two years are the highe st-level awards in the field of refrigeration industry in China .
Excellent Papers Awards were also founded to encourage the development of refrigeration science and to promote the quality of papers in China . Excellent paper awards have three grades, e.g. grade1, grade2, and grade3.
As one of the top scientific organizations in China , CAR promotes and conducts positively domestic and in ternational s cientific t echnology c ommunication. Every year more than 20 conferences are held or jointly organized by CAR.
At present, a number of conferences sponsored by CAR become very famous and popular, such as Annual CAR Conference , Annual National Conference of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration , Cross-strait Technology Exchange Conference of Refrigeration and Air-conditioning .
For the past twenty years, CAR has established science and technology cooperative relations as well as economic and trade connections with academic bodies and enterprises in US, UK, France, Russia, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, Austria, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand , and Belgium, and has made contributions towards our refrigeration and air-conditioning industry in promoting academic exchanges and trade with foreign countries. CAR has successfully held almost thirty international conferences and twenty international refrigeration exhibitions in China . CAR has also organized domestic delegations to visit foreign countries for inspection and trade.
After joining in WTO, China has more contacts with world economy. Against this background, the mutual acknowledge of engineer qualification becomes very urgent for China government. State Council has started and promoted the reform of engineer qualification system.
CAST discussed with Ministry of Personnel and Ministry of Science and Technology, and then authorized part of the first grade institutes to perform engineer qualification . After authorized by CAST in September 2004, CAR is one of the ten authorized institutes for the qualification . In 2005, CAR started the refrigeration engineer qualification .
The refrigeration engineer qualification faces to public, especially to design engineers, operating and maintenance technicians, contractors, equipment manufacturers and others in the private enterprises, Chinese-Foreign Joint Ventures enterprises, and solely foreign-owned enterprises in the refrigeration industry.
